Dude, I really need that defense help video... I started playing on the highest difficulty now and man I get crushed... It seems like every shot the cpu takes goes in if they are in the lower middle of the offensive zone. They check me whenever they want and take the puck away like it was nothing. Me, on the other side, cant take the puck by poking, stick lifting and forget about checking as it only works at the boards... The game really pisses me off right now as the cpu is better than every player I played online against.
So please put up a defensive video on superstar or what it's called.

Here's what I've done. I've recorded a match against the CPU on superstar difficulty. The audio is out of sync, so I swapped it on youtube. I've posted a video for each period, but Youtube is kind of slow so only one has been processed so far. I will post the other periods when they've been uploaded. Anyhow now you can see for yourself how I like to play defense (and offense). There are much better players out there than me of course, but I usually don't have any trouble beating the cpu on superstar - even though the games are pretty tight and I end up loosing some.

thanks alot! It is very important to attack the opponen with the puck with your forwards only. So the D stays in position in the slot. I always attacked with one of them and the slot was open. also poke checking is only effective if you are very close.
I love this blog...long time reader!
I just wanted to add....i really feel that Superstar is a bit too skewed in favor of the CPU....the most frustrating thing moreso than anything was the intense crisp passes that always go tape to tape with the CPU...i think its totally unrealistic.
I did a little bit of research using my current BEAGM campaign with the Vancouver Canucks.
I played on All Star for the first few years...and found it was just too easy to have my own way.
I found the site Operation Sports (a great sports gaming site)....and in the NHL 10 forums ...there is a subforum all about in-game slider positions, usually for All Star and Superstar difficulties.
After a week of seeing a thread called "(user)'s Realistic Superstar Sliders....the OP found a really fair balanced set of sliders that nicely evened out the gameplay between you and the CPU on Superstar.
If i recall correctly, many of the major slider moves were with passing.
I would suggest that you make a season or beagm campaign that is strictly used for testing slider values....and check out the forum i mentioned and try them out.
Im going to contact the writer of this blog to submit an interview with Ken Hitchcock, where he explains his concept of defensive Hockey....after reading it...it really helped shape the way i play defense
