EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NHL 12

So as I wrote in an earlier post, one of my my tactics when I play goalie in shootouts is to dive at the skater (hold R1 and move RS up). If you should face a goalie who does that all the time, the thing to do is to come in from the side, like this:

Defense: I've read all your posts, and my defense has improved, but I've found that if I control any player other than the people at the net when in my D-zone, say to go after the puck, my men at the net will leave someone hopelessly unmarked. This means I end up with long periods of pressure, because I can't leave my defenders to do their job, without taking huge risks...

Matt: That is a problem. I got two options for you (and none of them is 100 % secure).
1) Try using Tight Point strategy (this will make your all your CPU controlled players more aggressive) and perhaps even Puck side or High Pressure. Then take control of a D and play the passing lanes in the slot. Since your CPU-controlled players will (should at least) charge their man, you need to fend the slot (cause the CPU will overcheck from time to time).
2) Use a Winger to put pressure on the opponent when he got the puck at the point and change to controlling a D when the puck is by the boards. Changing player a lot can get messy though (when you don't get to controll the player you want to controll).

I generally allow my opponents some puck controll in my zone. I usually play the collapssing strategy and then I try to cut of passing lanes in the slot and by the boards, trying to force my opponent making a bad pass or take a shot from the point that I can block. You will loose pressure, especially at the points and half boards if you collapse but you won't give away quality scoring chances in the slot or let any (hopefully)cross-crease passes through.
And one more thing. Since your CPU-controlled players kind of sucks... when you put pressure on your opponent, leaving your CPU-players to defend the slot, attack him from the inside. With the inside I mean from the centre - allwoing him to move towards the half boards, boards or to the back of the net, but not towards goal. You should allways try to be positioned between the puck and your own goal.

To take control of the goalie, hold the left bumper (not the trigger) and press A. For PS3, I would imagine it's, what...L1 + X?

Here's my question. My created plays aren't showing up in Be A Pro or Be A GM, they only show up in quick play. Do I have to import them somehow or recreate them? That would suck to try to redo them since they are rather precise...

Thanks SmilinBOB!

Now there's isn't any one way to get the opportunity to do this. But if you manage to take a shot between the D's legs the goalie will have no f***ing way of knowing where the puck is going. Since the goalie has to play things safe, he will most likely protect the near post - giving you the opportunity to aim for the far post without him being able to see the puck until it's too late (if you manage to get the puck thorugh towards goal) If you get the opportunity use this to your advantage.

The toe-drag deke was done by moving the RS to 7 o'clock, then I pulled L1 (LB) and moved RS and LS to 1 o'clock.

I'm not that good at fighting but here's what I know:

Block punches with L2 (LT) and throw punches with the RS - remember that you aim with the RS aswell. Toggling LS from side to side let’s you deak punches. Pull the oponents jersey with LS to try do bring him down. You'll loose energy from punches that hits your arms when you block so you can't block forever.

I try to block and avoid punches with the LS and then I throw punches right after my oppponent has hit my arms or missed. Then I block again, throw a punch or two, block, punch and so on. Sometimes I just fire away punches right away, spamming the RS.

You can throw big punches (haymakers) by bringing the RS back and then forward, but you'll expose yourself when doingn so.

Beware of enforcers who pack a lot of punch. Who you fight with MATTERS.

In NHL 10 you control the goalie in shootouts and penalty shots against you.

When I'm controlling the goalie I do two things.

1) If the skater is coming straight at me, I skate out with my goalie and then I pull R1 and the RS up, making a desperation save. If timed right, you will stop any deke (but it's dangerous if the skater is taking a high shot or is moving from side to side). I often start with this move, since many players get confused by this move and thus will take a shot the next time (and then I will use tactic number 2).

2) This is safe way and easiest control wise (especially when the skater takes a shot). The only thing you have to do is to move the goalie with the left stick. Try to follow the player with little movements with the left stick. If the player is on the right side, move a little to the right (you don't have to move much) and if he moves to the left you move a little to the left. You don't have to move the RS at all, you'll stop most shots if positioned right. If the skater gets very close, he will have a hard time getting a high shot through, and therefore you might want to go into butterfly mode to stop low shots on your sides and five hole.

When you're the one taking the penalty shot, what I do is I watch the goalie when I start to skate towards goal. If the goalie doesn't seem to know what he's doing, moving from side to side I just try to wait until he leaves one of the posts and then I aim towards that side.

If he does what I did in example 2) you need to move in close on one side, deke over to that side, and then quickly move the puck over to the other side before taking the shot. If you move a lot from side to side, you will make it harder for him to follow your moves.

If you see the goalie skate out towards you like I did in example 1), quickly start skating to the side as the goalie will have no chance following your side movement which should result in him leaving the goal wide open for you to exploit.

With the puck, you may want to try initiating board-play to avoid getting hit. If you see your opponent lining you up for a massive check, press the button to stay near to the glass, before drumming it again to resume skating.
